What is Reiki?

Mikao Usui developed Reiki in Japan in the early 1900s. Reiki means “universal energy”, believing that a disruption to this energy balance may cause health problems. Reiki naturally creates a harmonious connection between the mind, body, and spirit, aiding in healing and restoring balance to the body, thereby enhancing overall well-being on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. In essence, Reiki is perceived as a mystical source of healing energy that brings about feelings of peace and happiness. It's an experience that relies on trust and sensation. Receiving this healing energy allows us to become more aware, accepting, and to develop more positive, healthy traits. Reiki is practiced worldwide, spanning from private practices and spas to hospital environments, surgical rooms, and hospices. It’s often used to complement and support alternative and conventional medicine health approaches. While many studies have explored the potential health benefits of Reiki, it's essential to note that Reiki itself does not claim to treat or cure any medical conditions.

What can you expect in a session?

During your initial appointment, our practitioner will take the time to acquaint themselves with you, encouraging you to voice any concerns or symptoms you might have while also addressing any questions you may pose. They'll also explain the process and discuss what you can expect. Following this, you'll have the option to either sit or lie down comfortably on a treatment table, fully clothed, with the freedom to close your eyes if you wish.
Soft music will play in the background, and generally, there will be minimal conversation during the session, unless our practitioner opts for a guided imagery meditation. Crystals may sometimes be incorporated into the session. Throughout, our practitioner will delicately move their hands (palms down) over your body (there is no pressure or massage involved) concentrating on various areas that may require attention, including the seven Chakras (Crown, Third Eye, Throat, Heart, Solar Plexus, Sacral, and Root). Typically, sessions last 20-25 minutes. Once finished, our practitioner will allow you to slowly open your eyes and begin to move your body. You will be offered water and there will be an opportunity to discuss how you are feeling after the treatment. Most people experience calm, relaxation, and peace following a Reiki session.
